Katherine Idziorek

Katherine Idziorek, AICP is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Interdisciplinary PhD program in Urban Design and Planning at the University of Washington. She holds dual master degrees in architecture and urban planning, also from the University of Washington and has more than eight years of experience practicing urban design in the greater Seattle area. Katherine’s research is focused on understanding the role of social networks and social infrastructure in community-scale disaster preparedness and longer-term community resilience and well-being. Her dissertation project comprises a mixed-methods comparative study of three characteristically different Washington State communities to better understand the relationship between attitudes and disaster preparedness as well as the potential for local resource matching. Katherine was part of the Institute for Hazard Mitigation Planning and Research team for the Localizing Hazard Mitigation: Recommendations for Westport’s Comprehensive Plan Update project.
